The upcoming special exhibition "Van Gogh by Night" will describe Dutch Post-impressionst painter Vincent van Gogh's struggle to represent night scenes using light.

Dutch Post-impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh (1853-1980) struggled with the task of representing night by light through a combination of various colors. Van Gogh by Night at New York's Museum of Modern Art (September 21, 2008-January 4, 2009) will display more than two dozen night landscapes and interior scenes that illustrate the visual effects of natural light and gaslight on the artist's subjects. Covering the artist's entire career, the exhibition will then be shown at Amsterdam's Van Gogh Museum (February 13-June 7, 2009).
