The National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. will debut The Gates, a documentary about the Winter 2005 public art installation in New York's Central Park by Christo and Jeanne-Claude, on Sunday, January 13, 2008 at 2:00 PM in the East Building Auditorium. The film's debut at the museum anticipates its HBO broadcast on February 26, 2008. The environmental artists will be present at the NGA to entertain questions from the audience after the movie's screening.
The Gates chronicles the 26-year development of Christo and Jeanne-Claude's project. It features archival footage of meetings and conversations between the two artists and various New York City government officials from the 1970s through 2005, when 7503 fabric-paneled gates were erected temporarily in Manhattan's Central Park.
