New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art announced on July 10, 2007 the appointment of Deirdre Larkin as Associate Horticulture Manager of its magnificent period gardens at The Cloisters, the United States' only museum devoted to the art, architecture and culture of the European Middle Ages. Ms. Larkin has held various positions at The Cloisters since 1991, including Lecturer and Assistant Manager/Horticulturist.
In her new role, effective May 14, 2007, Ms. Larkin directs the gardens' design, development and maintenance, manages her department and oversees the training of her staff and volunteers. She also continues to research medieval horticulture, interpret the gardens and create instructional materials and programs.
Dierdre Larkin earned a bachelor's degree in English and Classical Studies from the University of Massachusetts at Boston and a master's degree in the History of Religions from Princeton University (where she specialized in Late Antique and medieval religious and social history). She also possesses a certificate in Commercial Horticulture from the New York Botanical Garden.
