After hitting a number of snags, the New Acropolis Museum in Athens, Greece is scheduled for a September 2008 opening.

According to Agence France-Presse, Greek Culture Minister Michalis Liapis announced on February 20, 2008 that Athens' New Acropolis Museum will open to the public this coming September. The three-floor, 270,000-square-foot building, designed by architect Bernard Tschumi (b. 1944), was originally slated for a 2004 premiere in time for that year's Summer Olympics. However, the structure's been plagued by a number of technical obstacles and bureaucratic delays. The ultra-modern museum's construction costs are estimated at $189 million (US). Objects from the original museum continue to be moved to their new location.
