Nine Institutions Along Fifth Avenue to Participate in Annual Event

The 30th annual Museum Mile Festival along Manhattan's Fifth Avenue in New York will take place on June 3, 2008 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM.


Manhattan's Museum Mile Festival, sponsored by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, will celebrate its 30th anniversary on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. Vehicular traffic on Fifth Avenue from 105 Street to 82 Street will be prohibited, turning the thoroughfare into a pedestrian mall with live music. Admission to nine museums will be free.

  • Museum of the City of New York: The exhibition Catholics in New York 1808-1946 traces the history and development of the Catholic faithful in the five boroughs.
  • The Jewish Museum: Action/Abstraction: Pollock, de Kooning, and American Art, 1940-1976 explores Abstract Expressionism and the movements that followed in America through 50 important works by 32 artists, including Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning and Mark Rothko.
  • Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum: Rococo: The Continuing Curve 1730-2008 describes the enduring influence of the 18th-century French art style as seen in the decorative arts, drawings, furniture, prints and textiles.
  • National Academy Museum: The 183rd Annual Invitational Exhibition of Contemporary Art presents works by more than 125 emerging and established artists.
  • Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum: Discover the Thannhauser Collection of Impressionist, Post-Impressionist and early Modern art.
  • Neue Galerie: The museum for German and Austrian art presents Gustav Klimt: The Ronald S. Lauder and Serge Sabarsky Collections and Weiner Werkstätte Jewelry, a display of more than 40 works created between 1903 and 1930.
  • Goethe-Institut New York: The venerable Fifth Avenue institution and its library promote German culture and language.
  • The Metropolitan Museum of Art: See the popular exhibitions Superheroes: Fantasy and Fashion, Radiance from the Rain Forest: Featherwork in Ancient Peru and Medieval and Renaissance Treasures from the Victoria and Albert Museum. Visit the recently reopened and upgraded Robert Lehman Wing.
