The Harvard University Art Museums announced on December 13, 2007 that Ray Williams became their first Director of Education effective January 14, 2008. Mr. Williams will manage the expansion of the museums' educational programs for both the university and public outreach.
A graduate of Western Carolina University, Williams possesses a master's degree in Art History from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an individualized master's degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Ray Williams was Director of Education at the Rhode Island School of Design Museum. He taught courses in museum education at RISD as well as Brown University and Rhode Island College. He ran the Education Departments at the Peabody Essex Museum, the Smithsonian Institution's Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M.Sackler Gallery and the University of North Carolina's Ackland Art Museum.
