This year's Brooklyn Museum Women in the Arts Award will go to The Guerrilla Girls, a group of female arts activists, on November 9, 2007.

The Guerrilla Girls, a group of anonymous arts activists who style themselves as feminist masked avengers, are the recipients of the fifth Women in the Arts Award from the Brooklyn Museum, where they will be feted at a luncheon on November 9, 2007. Founded in 1985, the Guerrilla Girls campaign for gender and racial equality. Dressed in gorilla masks, their public appearances expose corruption, racism and sexism in art, film, politics and pop culture. Museums and universities around the world welcome their thought-provoking lectures, performances and workshops. They are the authors of The Guerrilla Girls' Bedside Companion to the History of Western Art and The Guerrilla Girls Art Museum Activity Book.

Those previously honored with the Women in the Arts Award include photographer Annie Leibovitz, artist Maya Lin, philanthropist Dr. Elizabeth A. Sackler and New York University arts educator Dr. Mary Schmidt Campbell.
