Yekaterina Barbash Appointed Assistant Curator

Yekaterina Barbash became the Brooklyn Museum's new Assistant Curator of Egyptian Art on January 7, 2008.


Dr. Yekaterina Barbash joined the Department of Egyptian, Classical and Middle Eastern Art at New York's Brooklyn Museum on January 7, 2008 as its new Assistant Curator of Egyptian Art. After receiving a B.A. in art history from New York University (1997), she completed her M.A (1999) and Ph.D. (2005) in ancient Egyptian history, art and philology at The Johns Hopkins University. This former Brooklyn Museum intern participated in John Hopkins' expedition to the Mut Precinct in Karnak, Egypt under the supervision of esteemed Egyptologist Betsy Bryan.

Dr. Barbash taught Read Like an Egyptian: Introduction to Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphs at New York University's School of Continuing and Professional Studies during the Fall 2007 semester.
