The Art Institute of Chicago announced on April 21, 2008 the appointment of Gary Stoppelman as its new Director of Marketing. He will provide leadership in advertising, communications, promotions and tourism activities prior to the opening of the AIC's new Modern Wing in 2009.

Mr. Stoppelman, Manager of Tourism at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art from 2006 to 2008, implemented operational and creative improvements, many related to The Met's new Greek and Roman galleries. Before that, he was the Museum of Modern Art's Assistant Director of Marketing for five years. In that capacity, Stoppelman's efforts were concentrated on MoMA's temporary move to Queens and the 2004 reopening of the museum's new building in Manhattan.

Gary Stoppelman holds an undergraduate degree in Theatre from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and an M.B.A. from the Columbia University Business School.
